Obama Fever
Inauguration is in full swing here in DC, with all kinds of balls (haha, balls), parties, etc...bars are open until 4 am, most offices are closed on Tuesday (including mine, hell yeah), and everyone is in a pro-America mood. I'm sure this will last for about 3 days after he gets elected, and then 50% of the country will hate our new President.
In proper Lurked-out style, I've celebrated by not getting out of my robe before 11 am.
I did get out of the house yesterday (our first day above 10 degrees in a few) and was amazed by all the pro-Obama signs, posters, tshirts (everyone's trying to make a buck), buttons, etc...in front of bars, restuarants, wherever. And that's just been in my 'hood. I'm sure it's crazy all over.
Tuesday I'm going to go down and try to see the crowds, etc., down by the White House. There's a big-ass security situation going on here, so I know I won't get anywhere near actual festivities, and since I'm not going to touch Metro (sure to be full-out calamity), I'm only going as far as I can walk. Hopefully I'll get some photos of the 2-4 million people expected to hit the Mall.
I'm just pumped to see people excited about shit again. Even if it doesn't last, it's a welcome change from the last, um, 8 years of soul-sucking hate that Bush and the dead-enders have brought us. I'm not dumb enough to think that Obama is going to solve everything or save the world, but at least he's not going to spend half his time just shitting on whoever doesn't agree with him.
On a more professional note, I'm also pumped to have a President who is a little more photogenic than Bushie. In too many photos our current president has that same stupid Mad Magazine look on his face; it's like the guy doesn't know how to not look like a dipshit. At least Obama looks like he's smart or thinking about something besides Skittles when he's photographed.
On a side note, Skittles kick ass.
