2nd Chance

Saturday a bunch of us got together for a bbq brodeo in memory of a good friend who passed last year. Chance went out way, way too early, and the best way to show how much he's missed is to skate and drink beer.

Since Rainspot was taken over by a family reunion or something, we headed to Shaw, the shittiest skatepark in DC, maybe the shittiest anywhere. No matter. It had all the ingredients of a proper brodeo:
  1. Passasble skate terrain (the hoops court is smooth as butter, but the asphalt under the ramps is flesh-tearing grade
  2. Skateboarders with skateboards
  3. A sketchy drunken lurker to stare at Ryan
  4. A cloaking device to hide us from curious DC cops. (Actually, the place is just such a dump, and not near where asshat yuppies live, that nobody cares what you do there)
  5. Curious teenage girls (aka Jailbait)
  6. Beers in bags, hot dogs and a grill (big thanks to Devine and Geoff for the grilling action)
Solid skating went down, with Geoff pulling off the Trick of The Day by kickflipping a tiny little kid board. Seriously, the thing was no more than 15 inches long. Just super-tiny.

I'm awarding myself Slam of The Day for my high-speed, insta-brakes double hip bounce off the stupid wooden rail. 4 days later, I've still got a new pet. He's a horse. His name is Charley. He lives on my left thigh.

JB took Feat of The Night with his two-handed, up-and-under, Boom-Shaka-Laka jam. Hands down best dunk I've seen someone do in person after drinking tallboys.

Good times, glad to see people come out, and a fitting tribute to Chance. RIP, man. You're missed down here.

Some of us in NJ skated for him this weekend as well.

That's one of the reasons some of you in NJ are badass.
