Stupid Home Ownership

This week has sucked for me to be owning a home. Ok, that's a little extreme. But it hasn't been that much fun.

First my A/C broke. Then it got fixed. Yay!

My toilet has been running at random times (i.e., not just after I flushed it), so I consulted the internets and my brother-in-law, a Guy Who Knows These Things. Both agreed it was The Flapper that needed to be replaced.

I got the model number, went back to the internets, typed in said model number, and got the type of replacement flapper I needed. I bought this flapper. Came home to install.

It's not even close to being the right replacement part. Damn. You. Flapper.

Apparently, I have some super-exotic toilet, that has this thing instead of a normal flapper.

Next step will be to call a plumber, who will likely fix this in 10 seconds. And give me condescending looks. Whatevs. I already know he's better than me, so we can get that outta the way.

Lights Out

In between some small stupid home improvement stuff this weekend I decided to change out some old light switches and electric outlets. I've done this before with no problems, and was really just filling time while waiting for some paint to dry.

The trouble started when one of the new switches wouldn't turn a light on/off anymore. The light still worked, but the switch doesn't do anything. Undaunted, I moved on and changed out some other stuff.

Now, two days later, that first switch still doesn't work switch, a second new switch randomly turns off two other outlets, and I've got a new blister from shocking the shit out of myself.

I'm giving it one more try before calling in the professionals.
